About Fleur Schell

‘Listening to the Koomal’ – by Fleur Schell

“My earliest memories are of building clay creatures from wild white clay at the edge of a dam, on the farm where I was raised near the regional wheatbelt town of Goomalling in Western Australia. I grew up and went to school with Ballardong people of the Noongar nation. The Noongar are the traditional custodians of Goomalling or Koomal, which means possum in Noongar.  ‘Listening to Koomal’ builds a habitat in our imagination for species we are losing due to mass extinction. Every time a species comes within our path, if you even know its name, then you make a room for it in your imagination. Building a habitat in the imagination is actually critical to the prevention of extinction of non human species”.

Fleur Schell is an internationally established ceramic artist. Fleur combines porcelain and mixed media to create meaningful narrative based installations.
